Founded in 2017, with the mission to make clean energy accessible to all.
Urban Energy’s founder and CEO, Russell Wilcox made it his goal to give all NYC residents access to distributed energy resources, which had historically not been the case.
The target was pre-war multifamily buildings in the city, which characteristically have large, flat roofs - making the perfect place for a high number of solar panels, as well as the potential for a large number of subscribers.
By taking advantage of this untapped market, Urban Energy was able to become one of the first community solar and electrification development companies with scale in New York City.
